History:
Hammer recorded multiple guitar-synth textures across Ashes to Ashes, Teenage
Wildlife, and the inceptive tracks for Up the hill Backwards. Hammers' layered
guitarchitecture work on Scary Monsters, marked the earliest use of guitar-synthesizer
in Bowies' catalogue. As a technical note, the instruments utilized on these
tracks included a Roland Gr 500 guitar synthesizer with Eventide Harmonizer.
Prior to recording with Bowie, Hammer worked extensively with Lou Reed.
Textural guitar tracks such as those on Ashes to Ashes implied an alternative
guitarchitecture in soundtrack composition, scoring and audio art.
