COMMENTS: A
very nice CD with an odd mixture of songs. The Earl's Court song is from
the 1999 Brit awards, and is performed together with Placebo. A nice little
Marc Bolan tune! The San Fransisco set is the complete FM broadcast "Johnny
Steel Breakfast Show", with David and Reeves performing as a duo. It's
great that the "talk" hasn't been omitted, and this broadcast
is probably the reason for making this disc? The other songs are official
versions except for FAME. I really don't know what to say about that one,
but I can't judge if it is a genuine studio session, or if anyone had a
great time adding some flute to it? With Bowie's sense of experimenting
with sounds and concepts, it wouldn't surprise me if they actually made
a "flute version"? The version of ALL THE YOUNG DUDES on this
issue isn't the same as on the Trident tapes CD:s, but taken from the official
boxed set "Mott The Hoople Anthology". The cover shows two kinds
of numbers, and that is on the back side it says 0198, and on the spines
0199. The correct number is 0199! This is in many ways a funny and good
release, and if you don't want to invest in many other discs just to get
the Bowie songs, this is a great substitute! |
