Even after Rykodisc added previously unreleased bonus tracks to their CD reissues of Bowie's RCA catalog, there were still a number of much-sought-after unreleased songs left in the vaults. Rarest One Bowie was intended to collect some of the items that remained unreleased, yet it wound up fall far short of its promise. Although it does contain Bowie's original version of "All the Young Dudes," it is the only studio track here. Instead, the remaining eight tracks are devoted to live performances, and while a few of them are quite good -- the deservedly legendary "Footstompin'" from The Mike Douglas Show and a cover of Cream's "I Feel Free" are highlights -- it doesn't significantly add anything to Bowie's catalog, and only hardcore fans will find this disappointing collection necessary.
